The traction motor drive chopper is a static power electronics device that converts a fixed DC input voltage directly into a variable (or controllable) DC output voltage. Often known as a DC-to-DC converter or the DC equivalent of an AC transformer, it uses high-speed semiconductor IGBTs switches to regulate voltage levels to provide near AC adhesion.
